Visual Communication: Studio Brief 3 - Reflection of Week and Limitations

While I have really enjoyed having a week of exploration, testing and playing - there have been quite a lot of limitations that I have recognised which have hindered my project development somewhat:

Limitations
• Print Workshop, Photography workshop and Laser Cutter machines being fully booked up.
Exhaustion from other projects (raising money for my Uganda visit, booking injections and plane flights for the trip, being contacted by ITV for a secret project and having endless Skype and phone conversations, and Guide Dogs Awards to plan the journey times for as well as going over copy to make sure all information is accurate).
• Not feeling motivated at times because of so much going on.
• Working tirelessly in front of the computer, straining my eyes and giving me headaches.
• Getting the beginnings of a chest infection from my peers who have been coughing at the computers!
• The ladies who run the biology department of the Leeds Discovery Centre are not back in until late next week; far too late into the project when my final work will most probably be finished!

These things are sent to try us, right Spongebob?

Project Round Up:
Initial Research: Library books, interviews, YouTube videos.
Experimentation: Freeform line drawings, expressive ink drawings, technical drawings, Photoshop experiments, Illustrator drawings, Laser cutting, clay models and vac forming.
Further development: Photography, photograms.

Reflection:
Despite these set backs piling up against me I am proud of the work I have been able to achieve so far and my determination to keep pushing and experimenting - trying something new each day outside of the studio. It is so easy just to sit down and draw at my table as it is convenient for both Tami and I, but I won't be achieving the results I want by just going back into complacency and comfortable means of making. Going back to consideration for my intent; I want to surprise myself and create a new form of visual language for myself. I now need to press on, refine my research and start to craft my final work.
