Visual Skills: End of Module Evaluation

Overall Reflection & Evaluation:
• This module has introduced me to some of the different formats that illustration can be applied to.
• I have never had the opportunity to experiment with a typology poster, editorial illustrations or a book cover design before;
so have found the chance to do so very fulfilling and educational.
• I have really enjoyed and engaged with the content of the Visual Skills module.
• Over the course of the module I have become more reflective and critical of my own and my peers' work.
• My self-questioning has improved as well as my approaches to creating images.
• Rather than being methodical and just creating lists, bullet points and mind maps, I now understand the value of being practical and
creating roughs, thumbnails, ideas bangs, iteration of motifs and repetition of concepts.
• Contextual research was key in the development of my ideas and concepts. I used a combination of the college library, my own collection of illustrator books, slides from the presentations, the use of Pinterest, It's Nice That, Creative Bloq and Illustration Web.
• I initially faced problems with time management and constraints of harmonising both my personal life and my illustrative work. This module has been a learning curve in ensuring I'm time-effective, make the best use of my studio and my materials
- but also set aside time for personal problems to arise in terms of health and well-being.
• I am learning through the briefs and the work I have achieved that simplicity is best and overcomplicating ideas and imagery will not make a better illustration!
